Q&A - "Ask The Coach" - Keeping My New Job From Consuming Me ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear "Ask
The Coach"
I am starting my new job with XYZ Company this month. This time around, I would like to keep my job from consuming me as it has happened in the past. I'd like to reserve some of my energy to enjoy things outside of working. Having never done it, I feel I am bound to fail. What would you recommend? Signed "Consumed on Long Island" Dear "Consumed on Long Island" If you are “bound to fail,” you probably will. Your fear of doing something you haven’t done successfully in the past is understandable – fear of the unknown and the fear of failing – we all experience those fears. The best way to overcome those fears and avoid those old habits that caused you to allow your job to consume is to develop a plan – a goal - a goal that is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reasonably High, and Time Specific. You need a goal to replace those old habits you fear with new ones to help you achieve the life balance you desire. Warm regards, Coach Richard (Send your questions to us. We do our best to answer those questions we feel reflect the interests of our readers) | |
